Volunteer with Monster Month and Unveil Your Inner Monster!

Alright, folks, let’s talk about monsters—but not the kind under your bed.

Every October, the Twilight Zoo Monsters take over Elora’s downtown.

Handcrafted by local artist Tim Murton, these critters are an impressive mishmash of materials, but, as Kirk McElwain, the chair of Sensational Elora, puts it:

“The Twilight Zoo monsters are made of cheesecloth and tissue, paper and wire, and they degrade over time. The weather does its job. And so they all have to be cleaned up and fixed. Keeping them looking good and making them available for October each year.”

While these creatures charm Southern Ontario families, they lack resilience to the weather.

Mother nature throws its proverbial tomatoes, and our monsters end up in need of a little TLC.

Calling All Handy Humans!

Do you feel your weekly schedule lacks that crucial “help mythical creatures in a small town” segment? Good news!

“Last year, we started repairs in May, and we went to half days a week. We had a lot of work to do, which has been rewarding this year. We have a lot less work to do, so we’re able to get away a one-half day a week.”

Yes, the work is already underway!

You can join the monster repair team every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in downtown Elora.

Here’s a Google map link that points you straight to Monster HQ.

Here’s How You Can Volunteer

Your skills are needed if you’ve got a bit of a MacGyver streak. McElwain emphasizes:

“We’re always looking for volunteers for monster repairs and installation. Anybody can contact us through email october@monstermonth.ca.”

A half-day a week of your time can make a big difference in keeping these Twilight Zoo Monsters in tip-top shape for the upcoming Halloween season!

Alright, now you’re all equipped to make a monstrously big impact in Elora this October. See you Tuesday?!
